Bio
Marcos Sánchez (1980), is a chilean visual artist, animator and filmmaker based in Santiago. Though he states drawing as the basis of his work, his practice covers a wide range of mediums, including painting, animation, sculpture and video installations. Characterized by a bold use of color and figuration, his work combines elements of personal memory and current visual culture into unsettling and sometimes nostalgic compositions. He has been part of many museum and gallery exhibitions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art MAC (Chile), Long Story Short Gallery (NYC), Tabula Rasa Gallery (Beijing) and Pabellón 4 Gallery (Buenos Aires). His video work combining found footage and animation has been part of numerous film and media arts festivals, winning awards at South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin and the Tokyo Media Arts Festival, among others. He has directed animated music videos for musicians like The Breeders, John Dieterich (Deerhoof) and Claire Cronin and has contributed to music videos for Coldplay and John Grant. His work is part of renowned art collections such as the IDB Art Collection (USA), Engel Collection (Chile) and Ca.Sa Collection (Chile).
